Ontario Government releases important video on Asbestos safety

The Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development has released a video called “Working with Asbestos: What You Need to Know”, which is full of important information. We encourage everyone to watch it.

OADC Members take asbestos seriously, and we know that all workplace parties have a shared responsibility to ensure workers are safe on the job.

Asbestos in the workplace is a hidden killer. Asbestos kills more workers than any other occupational hazard, including traumatic deaths in construction. Breathing in asbestos fibres can lead to serious illness such as: lung cancer; asbestosis; mesothelioma and chronic pulmonary disease. Effects may not show up for 15 or more years, however with prescribed controls and protective measures in place, the risk of exposure can be significantly reduced. Asbestos can be found during a number of different activities: demolition, renovation, and repair activities.
